Winter arrives, Society of Illustrators, and some new work. And best wishes for a safe and happy holiday season!
The Endless Winter
The classic surfboarder movie The Endless Summer was about surfers following summer around the world in search of the perfect wave. I didn't grow up with a surfboard, but I did grow up with skis and a snowboard, and would be more inclined to follow winter around the world... in search of the perfect hill. My wintertime riff on John van Hamersveld's classic summer movie poster.
Society of Illustrators 63: Two illustrations accepted
I'm honored to have had two illustrations accepted into the upcoming 63rd annual Society of Illustrators juried exhibition. "Prison Labor" was done for the National Labor Federation, and "Painted Light" was a personal piece about isolation. More details to follow in the next newsletter.
Hope for Springtime: Covid Vaccine
Several companies have announced positive results for a covid-19 vaccine, raising hopes for a major vaccination program beginning in the spring.
Digital Transformation
Commissioned by Pace Communications for Insigniam's IQ magazine. Digital transformation is most successful when corporate leaders first clearly define the transformation that's proposed, and then focus on technology that's already in place rather than dive head first into the newest technologies.
Am I Awake?
A personal piece about free will and consciousness. (And a play on words.) This visual occurred to me while reading a passage about "self" and free will in Red Pill by Hari Kunzru—although the passage never mentions an eye, a boat or water. That disconnect between an idea and what inspired it is a phenomenon that occurs often—and is wonderfully explained in Arthur Koestler's book on creativity, The Act of Creation.
